Mark Planisek is an artist living and working in Washington, D.C.
Though
he composes his works using a variety of media, photography is one of the most
important resources in Planisek’s work. Schooled traditionally in drawing and
painting, but it was the camera and its ability to mirror life that captivated
his interest. His current collection demonstrates the merging of his fine arts
background with the more technical world of photography and
serigraphy.
Planisek has exhibited his art at: The Camera Club Of New
York, The Arts Club Of Washington, D.C., The Holter Museum of Art in Helena,
Montana, The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., The Corcoran Gallery Of
Art, Washington, D.C., The Museum Of Contemporary Art, Washington, D.C.,
Elmhurst Art Museum, Chicago, Illinois, Columbia University, New York, N.Y.,
SoHo Photo Foundation, New York, N.Y., Westbeth Gallery, New York, N.Y.,
Concepto Gallery, Brooklyn, N.Y., The Fine Art Center En Taos, Taos, New Mexico
and S.R.O. Gallery, Texas Tech University.
His exhibits abroad include: Tsinghua University Art
Gallery, Beijing, China , The Lalit Kala Academy of Art, New Delhi, India, Area
Gallery, Toronto Ontario, Ryerson Gallery, Toronto, Ontario, Roxi’s Pocket Art
Museum, Hamburg, Germany, Gallerie Ambiente', Gelnhaussen, Germany.
Planisek has painted 11 memorial portraits of fallen soldiers for the “Faces of the Fallen“ memorial exhibit which was in the Women In Military Service for America Memorial
at Arlington National Cemetery (Virginia), which gave tribute to more
than 1300 soldiers whom died in Afghanistan and Iraq. This memorial exhibit ran
from March 23, 2005 until June 7, 2007 (see website-
www.facesofthefallen.org).
Planisek also completed two more portraits of fallen
soldiers, honoring two Navy Seals who died in Iraq in 2006. These portraits
became part of a permanent memorial for the soldiers at the naval amphibious
base in Coronado, CA. in 2007 (see website-http://www.navytimes.com/news/2007/10/navy_sealmemorial_071016/).

His artwork is in the private
collections of Quentin Tarantino, film director, Hollywood, CA., Mr. Tarantino's
mother, Connie Tarantino, Ms. Mira Sorvino, actress, New York, N.Y. and many others.
His work was selected by an international jury for the Florence Biennale
in Dec. 2007.
His works are in the permanent
collections of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, PA. and the Museum Of
Contemporary Art, Washington, D.C.
